What to see

According to Wikipedia, the Church of Saint Nicholas was built in 1718, replacing one burnt down by the Tatars the year before. Unlike most Maramureș churches, which stand on hills, this one sits in the middle of the village, in the old churchyard. A twisted rope carved in wood runs around the walls. The paintings inside date from 1754.

For groups

  • Bogdan Vodă, Ieud and Bârsana are all in the Iza Valley. You can see all three on a single day trip.
  • Visiting hours should be checked in advance. The church is a place of worship, not a museum.
