What to see

According to Wikipedia, today’s monastery was built from 1993 onwards, at the edge of the village of Bârsana. It is an Orthodox convent. The churches and buildings are made of wood in the Maramureș style, with tall spires and shingle roofs, among well-tended gardens. Old documents mention a monastery in the Bârsana area as early as 1390.

For groups

  • On the way to Bârsana you pass through Bogdan Vodă, and Ieud is a short detour. All three can be seen in one day.
  • Opening hours, dress code and coach parking should be checked in advance.
