The Merry Cemetery in Săpânța is 94.9 km, about an hour and three quarters away by car. It is a full day out, easily combined with Sighetu Marmației, which lies on the way.

What to see

According to Wikipedia, in 1935 the craftsman Stan Ioan Pătraș began carving oak crosses, painted in bright colours, with scenes from the lives of the people buried there and verses that are often full of humour. Today there are around 800 crosses, and the cemetery has become an open-air museum unlike any other in the world.
